Academic World Quest 2022-2023 Study Guide & Great Decisions 2022 Glossary.  Study Materials available on-line at ICWA's web site:  www.IndianaWorld.org

The Indiana Council on World Affairs organizes the Academic WorldQuest global studies competition.

An array of co-sponsors, including the Indiana Council for the Social Studies and the Indiana Foreign Language Teachers Association enrich the event.

With long-term sponsor University of Indianapolis, Professors Doug Woodwell, International Relations, and Brian Platt, Geography, will serve as Quizmasters for the competition.

Support from Indiana University Hamilton Lugar School’s National Resource Centers, including the Center for the Study of Global Change, is very much appreciated.  New this year, is corporate sponsor CenterPoint Energy.

Any Indiana teacher in any Indiana high school (public, charter, private, home school* (or combination of two schools*) can participate by registering their school for the competition. Schools may register as many teams as there are students who are interested.  Students organize into teams of four to test knowledge of global politics, geography, international economics, history, and world cultures.  There is no need to register students at this time.                *Upon confirmation per ICWA & WACA.

This quick-paced event consists of questions on 10 categories for a total perfect score of 100%.

To prepare for the quiz-style competition, a teacher recruits as many students as are interested and provides guidance and independent access to the FREE on-line Academic WorldQuest 2023 Study Guide and the Great Decisions 2022 Glossary.

Questions for the competition are derived from the "Academic WorldQuest 2023 Study Guide" and the "Great Decisions 2022 Glossary."  Both are posted on the Indiana Council on World Affairs web site for direct access by teachers and students.

GREAT DECISIONS 2022 GLOSSARY

Although Academic WorldQuest has traditionally been an in-person event, due to continuing pandemic concerns, the competition was held virtually in 2021 and 2022 using Zoom Rooms and Quizziz gaming software that is optimally accessible through PC or tablet, or, in some cases smartphone.

The 2023 competition will be offered in a hybrid format with each school having the option to participate in-person at the University of Indianapolis or virtually from their school via Zoom.  Each team must be equipped with a PC or tablet, or, in some cases smartphone.

Before the competition, each registered teacher will be sent a link to access the event via Zoom.  In turn, the teacher must forward this link to each team captain.

For virtual participation, teams will be able to participate by meeting at a local high school or community center, so there is no need to travel.  The capability to project the quiz questions onto a larger screen is recommended.

For teachers who register a team, the Indiana Council on World Affairs (ICWA) provides:

  • FREE Membership in the ICWA for the 2022-2023 season.  (After registering for AWQ, to activate your FREE membership, visit the ICWA web page, select "Join-Renew" tab, and check "Teacher / Student - FREE.")
